One of the most challenging hurdle when it comes to eating healthy is knowing how to feel full without over-eating and not feel hungry at the same time. There are a number of ways to get rid of random food cravings and most of them are simple techniques which you can implement in your daily routine and will not take up much time at all.
Let us take a look at these cravings in more detail. The fact of the matter is that these cravings usually do not last long at all. They typically last around 20 to 30 minutes. This is especially the case if you have just eaten a meal. Sometimes, it is just your brain playing tricks on you, making you feel hungry when you are actually not. Sometimes, it is actually thirst mistaken as hunger.
The first tip is to drink a glass of water when you feel as if the craving is starting to come. Water is natural filler and can help you feel fuller by taking up space in your stomach. Drink 8 -16 ounces of water when the feeling arises. Let a bit of time pass, around 20-30 min and see if the feeling decreases in intensity. Most of the time, the feeling will go away.
Second method is to wait out the 'hunger' or food cravings. Wait and see if that feeling of hunger goes away after a few minutes. It will usually only last about 20 minutes.
An alternative method is to keep busy with other things. When you are busy doing something; you will often forget to even do things that come naturally to you. For example, if your day is jam-packed with various activities, then finding the time to eat seems like a big problem. This is not a healthy habit, but I mentioned it to prove that whenever you are moving around and have a lot of other activities to attend to, then you will have much more control over how much you eat and how often you will feel hungry. Many people eat purely out of boredom. If you are somewhere else where you are not able to have access to food so easily, then you will not snack.
These are just a few of the many ways in which you can fight those feelings of hunger and win. There are many other ways to manage these types of cravings. Most importantly, if you can learn to control your thoughts then you will win the battle against hunger and food cravings.
