9 Essential Winter Beauty Tips

We all know that fashion changes with the seasons, but did you know that you should also change your beauty regime based on the month of the year? The cold, dry winter air can be bad news for your skin and hair, so here's 9 tips for making sure you stay looking just as beautiful in December as you do in June.

1. Moisturise Frequently
The winter air can quickly dry out your skin, so it is important to moisturise reguarly throughout the day. For an extra moisture boost you might also want to use a body lotion in the shower in the morning, which will help to lock extra moisture into your skin.

2. Cut Down On The Alcohol
Don't worry, we don't mean the kind you drink! Hair and skin products with high alcohol content can strip away moisture, so they should be avoided where possible in the winter.

3. Turn Down The Water Temperature
When you wake up on a winter morning and it's freezing cold while you wait for the heating to kick in it can be tempting to turn the water temperature in the shower up by a couple of degrees. Try and avoid this temptation as again, water that is too hot will cause skin to lose moisture.

4. Go Easy On The Hair Straighteners
And talking of heat, your hair will thank you if you can cut down a little on the use of hair straighteners during the winter months. Alternatively, you might consider using a hair straightener with adjustable temperature control, such as the Cloud Nine Iron and use it on a cooler setting that you would during the rest of the year.

tip - always use heat protection when using hair straighteners to minimise heat damage and loss of moisture.

5. Use Lip Balm
Chapped lips look and feel awful, so apply lip balm regularly to protect and heal your lips. Lip balms with tea tree oil are particularly effective at healing cracks and aiding healing.
Oh, and try not to lick your lips as this will make chapping worse.

6. Snow and Sun - Use Sunscreen
Sunscreen? Sunscreen?! Well, it may sound crazy at first, but the Winter sun can damage your skin just like the Summer sun can when it reflects off of white snow. It's like a mirror shining it right into your face. A light sunscreen will prevent damage.

7. Keep Your Gloves And Socks Dry
Wearing wet gloves and socks can irritate your skin and cause cracking, so make sure your gloves and socks are completely dry before putting them on.

8. Have a Bath With Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is a fantastic product for nourishing skin and replacing lost nutrients. Add a few drops to your bath and your skin will love you for it!

9. Eat A Balanced Diet And Drink Plenty Of Water
Well, no list of beauty tips would be complete without this would it? You are what you eat, so eat well and you will look well! Don't worry about having the odd day of indulgence over Christmas though, just try and make up for it in January!

So, there's 9 tips for your winter beauty regime. Do you have any other tips you would like to share?

Adopting a Vegetarian Diet

Adopting a vegetarian diet has become a popular choice for individuals looking to improve their health, particularly as heart disease and obesity rates continue to rise in many parts of the world. Vegetarians tend to have lower cholesterol levels and consume fewer trans fats than those who consume meat and dairy products. However, to maintain good health, vegetarians must ensure they obtain the right amount of nutrients from their vegan diets. By taking care to plan their diets carefully, vegetarians can enjoy a satisfying and tasty way of life. While there is no established vegan diet, it is widely agreed that with so many vegetarian diets to choose from, the choice is ultimately up to the individual. However, vegetarians must be cautious not to make their diets too restrictive as this can lead to difficulties in meeting the body's daily nutritional requirements. Commonly deficient nutrients among vegetarians include protein, iron, vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium, and zinc. Soy pr...

Is White Wine Good For Your Heart?

Is white wine as "heart healthy" as red wine? Here’s what you should know about the heart health benefits of white wine. The answer is  probably  -- though researchers continue to debate the question. Some studies have indicated that red wine is modestly better for the heart than white wine (or beer or spirits) because it contains resveratrol -- a polyphenol (plant chemical) associated with cardiovascular benefits, including reduced risk of heart attack. Resveratrol is found in the seeds and skin of grapes, which are crushed together with the pulp to make red wine. White wines, on the other hand, are made with just pulp and therefore contain very little resveratrol. But recent studies have shown that the pulp does contain other polyphenols that may be heart healthy. Moreover, although red and white wines differ in polyphenol composition, both contain similar amounts of alcohol -- which is known to increase level s of HDL ("good") cholesterol and prevent bl...
